A Guide To Painting Previously Painted Wooden Furniture:

• Ensure surface is clean, dry and grease free using sugar soap to remove all loose and flaking paintwork then rinse with clean water. Rub down with a medium grade sandpaper feathering in where paint has been removed.
• For a significant colour change, apply one coat of ‘Intelligent ASP’ (all surface primer) to ensure the depth of colour is retained. Allow to dry for at least two hours.
• Stir the paint thoroughly before use then apply the first coat of ‘Intelligent Satinwood’ evenly and allow to dry for four hours.
• Apply a second coat of ‘Intelligent Satinwood’. Two full coats of ‘Intelligent Satinwood’ are recommended to achieve full depth of colour. Your piece will be surface dry within 1–2 hours.

A Guide To Painting Bare or New Wooden Furniture:

• Ensure that the surface is cleaned and treated.
• Ensure that any knots in softwood and all hardwoods are sealed with Aluminium Wood Primer or knotting compound.
• New wood should then be primed using Intelligent ASP (15% v/v with water to allow penetration into the substrate). Ensure wood is dry as damp wood should never be painted.
• Stir the paint thoroughly before use. Apply the first coat of ‘Intelligent Satinwood’ evenly and allow to dry for four hours.
• Apply a second coat of ‘Intelligent Satinwood’. Two full coats of ‘Intelligent Satinwood’ are recommended to achieve full depth of colour. Your piece will be surface dry within 1–2 hours.

Choosing a colour for your garden furniture should be a fun process, but we have put together some expert colour tips if you need a little guidance…

Choosing a colour that combines well with lots of different hues of green in a garden space is a good place to start. Reds, Blues, Pinks, Neutrals and Yellows all combine well with green.

If you are looking for a delicate, romantic colour for your garden shed, ‘Celestial Blue’ and ‘Normandy Grey’ are perfect choices. Both colours will create a more traditional, ‘country garden’ feel to your outdoor space, as well as being complementary to the natural surroundings.

Consider combining two colours together to highlight features on your shed. Shown here, ‘Windmill Lane’ has been used on the windows, doors and paneling and ‘Acorn’ has been used on the walls.

If your shed is more of practical space and you would prefer it to be less noticeable, consider painting it in the same colour as the backdrop (whether that’s a fence or a wall). We’d recommend starting a fence project when you have a series of dry days, as damp wood should never be painted.

If you have a new fence with separate panels, it’s much easier to paint them individually before slotting them back into the posts. If the fence is existing and already sits inside posts, we would recommend pulling out each panel from the post to paint them. If the fence isn’t detachable, ensure any surrounding foliage is cut back or gently pulled away before painting.

For a smooth, professional finish use a large, high quality synthetic bristle brush. New brushes should be washed in clean water and thoroughly dried with a clean, lint free, cloth before use.

Paint the panels in smooth, even strokes in the direction of the grain, rather than against it.

What you need to start your fence project:

• X1 tin of Intelligent Exterior Eggshell in a colour of choice

Behangcollectie Archive Trails II bevat, net als haar zeer succesvolle voorganger, een collectie patronen, die zijn ontleend aan een reeks archiefmaterialen. Hieronder bevinden zich kostbare designoverblijfselen, die ontdekt zijn en nu bewaard worden door English Heritage en de Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester. De designs, welke gevonden en opnieuw ontworpen zijn door een getalenteerd team van kunstenaars en historici, die nauw samenwerken met de Little Greene Studio, zijn van nieuwe kleuren en een subtiele schaalaanpassing voorzien. Hierdoor passen de designs moeiteloos in hedendaagse interieurs.

De acht behangontwerpen van Archive Trails II beslaan de periode vanaf het begin van de 18e tot halverwege de 20e eeuw. De designs vertegenwoordigen een spectrum van drukmethoden door deze eeuwen heen en zijn verbonden door de thema’s van ongerepte flora en incidentele fauna. Het document waaraan dit patroon is ontleend, werd gevonden in Brooke House in Hackney, en geïdentificeerd als daterend uit de jaren ’20. Waarschijnlijk is het ontwerp gekopieerd van een veel ouder behang. De vijf kleurstellingen van Brook House zijn samengesteld aan de hand van de schilderachtige, gestructureerde oppervlaktedruktechniek, die typerend is voor het oudere, originele behang.

Brooke House - Cinder

Crowe Hall Lane (c.1898)
Dit is een grootschalig, laat 19e eeuws behang met een gedurfd patroon van exotische vogels en bloemen. Het behang was toegepast in een rond trappenhuis in Crowe Hall, een landhuis in Suffolk, waar de verticale aard van het guirlandepatroon de hoogte van de kamer benadrukte. Het is waarschijnlijk rond de eeuwwisseling opgehangen en werd jaren later ontdekt tijdens uitgebreide conserveringswerkzaamheden aan het huis. Dit ontwerp is een bestaand en veelgeprezen design uit het Little Greene portfolio. Crowe Hall Lane is verkrijgbaar in zowel drie nieuwe als vier bestaande kleurstellingen.

Loriini (c.1935)
Dit oppervlaktedrukontwerp met exotische papegaaien en oosterse bloesems is gebaseerd op een charismatisch 20e-eeuws stuk van de Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester. Het exotische ontwerp en de bijna symmetrische herhaling heeft een typische jaren ‘30-stijl. Het weerspiegelt de aspiraties van reizen naar verre landen en straalt rijkdom uit naar bezoekers van het huis. Hoewel de designs ten behoeve van de moderne interieurs voorzien zijn van nieuwe kleuren, dragen de geselecteerde kleurstellingen het bewijs dat het gebruik van felle kleuren in de jaren ’30 alledaags was. Alleen daarom al is de papegaai misschien wel gekozen voor dit ontwerp! Loriini is verkrijgbaar in vijf kleurstellingen.

Monroe (c.1867)
Monroe is in deze collectie het tweede behang dat van Brooke House in Hackney, East London, afkomstig is. Een lange periode was Brooke House in gebruik als privéziekenhuis. Dit ontwerp ontleent zijn naam aan één van de belangrijke eigenaren uit de 19e eeuw: Dr. John Monroe. Het patroon is opnieuw ontworpen op basis van een relatief klein overblijfsel, dat gevonden is door English Heritage, voordat het huis in de jaren vijftig werd afgebroken. Het is ongetwijfeld geïnspireerd door de Arts & Crafts-beweging. De vertrouwdheid ervan zou zijn gebruikt om ziekenhuispatiënten op hun gemak te laten voelen en te steunen bij hun herstel. Dit behang is verkrijgbaar in vijf kleurstellingen.

Woodblock Mono (c.1735)
Woodblock Mono is gecreëerd door de vereenvoudiging en verkleining van het grotere ‘Woodblock Trail’ behangpatroon.  Het vertegenwoordigt de eeuwenlange trend om te variëren met de schaling van designs om verschillende visuele effecten te creëren. Deze monochrome versie is delicater en toepasselijker in een kleinere ruimte. Woodblock Mono  is verkrijgbaar in vijf kleurstellingen.

Woodblock Trail (c.1735)
Dit vroege blokdrukontwerp versierde ooit de muren van een kamer, hoogstwaarschijnlijk de eetkamer, op de begane grond van een historisch pand in Salisbury, Wiltshire. De eenvoudige grafische elementen zijn typisch voor een ontwerp, dat uit hout gesneden werd, en met de hand op het behangpapier aangebracht werd met behulp van een hangende blokpers. Doordat de toepassing van verschillende drukkleuren de toewijding en nauwkeurigheid van een echte vakman vereiste, behoorde decoratief behang in die tijd alleen tot het domein van bevoorrechte mensen. Als zodanig waren dure, sprekende designs meer gevraagd dan goedkopere alternatieven. Dit dessin is verkrijgbaar in vier kleurstellingen.

Wrest Trail (c.1848)
Wrest Trail is afgeleid van een interessant stuk uit het English Heritage archief. Het is vooral opmerkelijk vanwege de tekenstijl, die werd gebruikt om het all-over guirlande-effect te creëren. Een gestructureerde, slingerende tak is versierd met ongedwongen, bijna schetsachtige interpretaties van bladeren en vruchten. Op het eerste gezicht lijkt het ontwerp qua stijl misschien meer midden 20^e -eeuw, maar de werkelijke oorsprong is zo’n honderd jaar eerder. Wrest Trail is verkrijgbaar in vijf kleurstellingen.

Masonry Paint

Limewash

Limewash is een zeer traditionele kalkafwerking, die wordt gebruikt om poreuze stenen muren, kalk- en leemmuren en gipsmuren een kleur te geven en tegelijk te beschermen. Deze verf is op waterbasis, volledig natuurlijk en daarmee milieuvriendelijk. Limewash heeft een ademende afwerking en is daardoor ook geschikt voor oude muren, vooral die gevoelig zijn voor vochtproblemen. In tegenstelling tot conventionele verven dringt Limewash door in het oppervlak. De mooie, charismatische kleurdiepte wordt opgebouwd door het aanbrengen van meerdere verflagen. Durf donkere tinten te gebruiken of kies voor een eenvoudig, neutraal ontwerp in combinatie met een gave kleur. De afwerkingen van Little Greene zijn duurzaam en hebben een mooi effect op muren en houtwerk, maar ook op bijvoorbeeld de keukenkastjes. De afwerkingen zijn speciaal ontwikkeld om een druk gezinsleven, kleine handjes en zelfs huisdieren te weerstaan!

Bedenk voordat u de kleuren gaat kiezen, welke stijl u wilt bereiken in de keuken. Daarnaast is het belangrijk om rekening te houden met de kleuren die al aanwezig zijn in deze ruimte. Denk hierbij aan het meubilair, de vloeren of eventuele kunstwerken. Dit zijn allemaal elementen die als kleuren in het palet opgenomen moeten worden, om zo uiteindelijk een mooi geheel te creëren.

Wanneer u verf voor uw keuken kiest, heeft u keuze uit verf op waterbasis en verf op oliebasis.

Verf op waterbasis

De Little Greene ‘Intelligent’ verven zijn baanbrekende duurzame afwerkingen. De verschillende afwerkingen zijn verkrijgbaar in alle Little Greene verfkleuren. Deze verven zijn op waterbasis, milieuvriendelijk en uitermate geschikt voor ruimtes waar het hele gezin intensief gebruik van maakt, zoals de keuken en badkamer. Zonder problemen kunnen de verven worden toegepast op hout, muren met stucwerk en radiatoren. Aangezien deze afwerkingen wasbaar zijn, worden de keukenkasten en –muren beschermd tegen vlekken en vuil. Onze intelligente verven zijn ook gecertificeerd als kindvriendelijk en zijn dus volkomen veilig in alle delen van het huis.

Intelligent Matt Emulsion - Dit is één van de meest milieuvriendelijke verven, geformuleerd om een ultieme prestatie te leveren met een prachtige diepte van kleur en een zeer matte afwerking. De 100% acrylaat formulering is bestand tegen vlekken, biedt een uitzonderlijke wasbaarheid en is vijftien keer sterker dan gewone matte emulsieverven. Daarbij is de Intelligent Matt Emulsion gecertificeerd als zijnde kindveilig en geschikt voor vele ondergronden, met name wanden en plafonds.

Intelligent Eggshell - Deze matglanzende afwerking beschikt over een uitzonderlijke duurzaamheid, is ook kindveilig en geschikt voor vele ondergronden, waaronder houtwerk. De Intelligent Eggshell is volledig wasbaar en samengesteld om vocht, vlekken en algemene slijtage te weerstaan.

Intelligent Gloss - De Intelligent Gloss is een zeer sterke en volledig afwasbare, hoogglans verf. Het is een milieuvriendelijk en duurzaam alternatief voor glansverf op oliebasis. Deze verf kan zowel voor de keuken binnen als voor een buitenkeuken worden gebruikt.

Verf op oliebasis      

Verf op oliebasis bestaat al negenhonderd jaar en is van oudsher de klassieke afwerking voor houtwerk. Traditionele verf op oliebasis dringt optimaal in het hout door, biedt een hogere duurzaamheid en staat bekend om de uitstekende flow en de gladde afwerking. Dankzij de betere hechting aan het oppervlak dan mogelijk is met een snel drogende verf, zijn traditionele recepten op oliebasis in staat een langere levensduur te beiden. 

Flat Oil Eggshell - Deze duurzame, oliegedragen verf heeft slechts 10% glansniveau en is daarmee matter dan gewone eggshell-verven. Hierdoor kan deze verf perfect gecombineerd worden met Little Greene’s gerenommeerde matte emulsieverven. Flat Oil Eggshell is speciaal ontwikkeld voor het interieur en duurzaam genoeg om de slijtage in een familiehuis te weerstaan. De verf betreft een superieure, gebruiksvriendelijke verf, met soepele toepassingseigenschappen en een langere verwerkingstijd.

Floor Paint - Onze zelf-primende Floor Paint (tevens op oliebasis) is geschikt voor houten of betonnen vloeren en is een van de meest duurzame verfsoorten die verkrijgbaar is voor huishoudelijk gebruik. De Floor Paint is net als onze andere afwerkingen verkrijgbaar in het uitgebreide kleurassortiment van Little Greene.

Whether it’s your guest bedroom, downstairs lavatory or your garden room, there’s never been a better time to get those interior decoration projects completed and to make your home beautiful. Perhaps spending more time at home has inspired you to redecorate your home completely, which is exciting, but we understand this can be a daunting task.

Although it can be tempting to order your paint and wallpaper as soon as possible at the moment, it will pay off to plan your project in stages and to test colours in situ before committing.

We’ve put together a couple of tips to help you undertake your lockdown project and to guide you through the paint journey with ease.

Follow these key steps and we’re certain you won’t make any costly decorating mistakes down the line. The project will be carefully curated, and you’ll be delighted with the finished result. Besides, we’re certain that you’ll enjoy the creative process too.

Step 1 – Gather Inspiration

Gathering inspiration is a great way to really focus your mind on the colours you want to use, as well as trying to determine the look and feel of the space you want to create.

Pinterest, Instagram and Houzz are brilliant tools for online inspiration – not forgetting interior design magazines such as Living ETC, House and Garden and Ideal Homes which are all great sources too. Start ‘pinning’, ‘saving’ and ‘mood-boarding’ away, get creative!

You should have a good idea of what kind of colours you want to use in your scheme by the end of this process.

Step 2 – Request a Colour Card

Before you order any sample pots or paint, make sure you order our complimentary colour cards online. This will give you a full overview of the colour range and it will demonstrate how the colours look in real life. All of the paint colours on the colour cards are handpainted chips, so this is exactly the shade that the colour will be on your walls.

Remember, colours that appear on your screen will always look different in person and it will vary depending on the device and screen resolution. Ordering a colour card will eliminate any concerns from the very start and help you to order the correct Sample Pots too!

By bending the card you can use our handy ‘flying chips’ to compare the colours next to fabrics and existing furniture you may already have in your scheme.

You will receive our ‘Colours of England’, ‘Green’, and ‘Grey’ colourcards in the post after around five working days from placing your order.

Use this time wisely to refine your ideas.

Step 3 – Ordering and testing Sample Pots in situ

Now you are ready to order your 60ml Sample Pots. This is a really important step because:

• You need to see the colour on a bigger expanse and in situ. Although the colour chips are the exact colour, they are very small in comparison to your wall.
• Colour changes throughout the day. So we recommend painting out a piece of card and placing it around the room and viewing it at varying times throughout the day, you’ll be surprised how this can alter how the colour reads.
• Colour can appear warmer, cooler, darker or lighter depending on the natural and artificial light in your space. For example, what looks like a warm grey in a south facing room, may look a littler cooler in a north facing room.

When your sample pots arrive we would always recommend painting them out on a large expanse (ideally an A3 sized card) and paint at least two coats to achieve full depth of colour.

The finish is our Absolute Matt Emulsion which is perfect for testing colour on your own walls as it dries quickly and your brush can be easily washed out in water.

All of our current colours (anything in the Colours of England, Grey and Green colour cards) are available in 60ml Sample Pots and they can be ordered here. Each order comes with a handy sample brush so you can put them to the test straight away, alongside a Teapigs teabag - so you can unwind and mull over your beautiful colour choices over a cup of tea.

Unfortunately our Archive Colours aren't available in 60ml Sample Pots but you'll be pleased to hear that you can still order a 250ml sample tin of your desired Archive Colour by contacting our sales office directly.

Step 4 – Choosing and ordering your bespoke colours

When you are 100% on your colour choice and you have identified a suitable finish for your project, you’re ready to order!

Our order process is personal. Your order will be picked and tinted by hand, then colour checked by a member of the warehouse team before it leaves our distribution centre - ensuring total colour accuracy.

Little Greene colours are tinted to order, which means we cannot accept returns.

If you want to start decorating straight away, consider adding a ‘Decorator's Kit’ into your basket. The pack is perfect for most household projects – high quality tools have been selected by our technical team for their ease of use, quality in application and their long life.

The pack will be sent out with your paint order, so you will receive everything you need to start your project as soon as your parcel arrives.

This kit contains:

1 x 1” synthetic brush (suitable for all paint types)

1 x 2½” synthetic brush (suitable for all paint types)

1 x 9” medium pile roller (suitable for applying water-based paint to walls and ceilings)

1 x roller tray 1 x 1.5” roll of masking tape

1 x pack of fine abrasive paper for surface preparation/creating a key for the paint to adhere to

Get decorating - using this five stage process, your home will be planned with perfection.

Le choix d'une couleur pour vos meubles de jardin doit être, pour vous, un moment agréable, mais nous avons rassemblé quelques conseils d'experts en matière de couleurs si vous avez besoin d'un peu d'aide...

Le choix d'une couleur qui se combine bien avec de nombreuses teintes de vert présentes dans un jardin est un bon point de départ. Les rouges, les bleus, les roses, les neutres et les jaunes se combinent tous bien avec le vert.

Si vous recherchez une couleur délicate et romantique pour votre abri de jardin, "Celestial Blue" et "Normandy Grey" sont des choix parfaits. Ces deux couleurs donneront à votre espace extérieur un aspect plus traditionnel de "jardin de campagne", tout en étant complémentaires de l'environnement naturel.

Pensez à combiner deux couleurs pour mettre en valeur les caractéristiques de votre cabanon. Ici, "Windmill Lane" a été utilisé pour les fenêtres, les portes et les lambris et "Acorn" pour les murs.

Si votre cabanon est plus pratique qu’esthétique et que vous préférez qu'il soit moins visible, pensez à le peindre de la même couleur que le fond (que ce soit une clôture, un mur ou même du végétal). Ainsi, l’environnement et le bâtiment se "fondent" l'un dans l'autre et il devient moins visible à l'œil nu. Notre "Invisible Green" est idéal pour cela.

La lumière naturelle est beaucoup plus forte en extérieur, vous pouvez donc vous permettre d'expérimenter des tons plus sombres. Ci-dessous, notre "Juniper Ash" a été utilisé pour peindre tout l'abri, associé à une touche d’"Atomic Red" sur le banc.

Pour mettre en valeur les meubles de jardin, la peinture de l’abri de jardin dans un ton tel que "Lamp Black" servira de toile de fond à des meubles colorés comme "Trumpet" et "Turquoise Blue".

Une fois que vous avez choisi vos couleurs, vous devrez choisir la bonne finition pour votre projet...

Nous vous recommandons notre finition "Intelligent Exterior Eggshell". Cette finition est à séchage rapide, pratiquement inodore, résistante aux intempéries et auto-apprêtante, ce qui signifie qu'elle peut être appliquée directement sur du bois neuf ou nu.

Si vous préférez utiliser une peinture à l'huile peu brillante, utilisez la finition ‘’Tom’s Oil Eggshell’’

Préparation et impression

• Veillez à ce que la surface du cabanon soit nettoyée.
• Les boiseries déjà peintes doivent être soigneusement nettoyées et poncées, afin d'éliminer toute peinture détachée ou écaillée.
• Veillez à ce que les nœuds résineux du bois tendre et de tous les bois durs soient bloqués à l'aide de notre Aluminium Wood Primer.
• Si vous changez radicalement de couleur quand vous peignez sur du bois déjà peint, nous vous recommandons d'appliquer une couche de "Intelligent ASP" (apprêt pour toutes les surfaces). Cela vous permettra d'obtenir la couleur souhaitée avec moins de couches de finition, ainsi que d'apprêter la surface pour être prête à peindre.

Peinture

• Veillez à ce que le bois soit complètement sec, car il ne faut jamais peindre du bois humide.
• Remuez bien la peinture avant de l'utiliser. Appliquez uniformément la première couche de "Intelligent Exterior Eggshell" et laissez sécher.
• Votre abri sera sec au toucher dans les 2 à 4 heures, mais vous devrez attendre 16 heures avant d'appliquer la deuxième couche.
• Appliquez une deuxième couche de "Intelligent Exterior Eggshell".
• Deux couches complètes de "Intelligent Exterior Eggshell" sont recommandées pour obtenir la pleine profondeur de la couleur.
